Rigid PVC Wall Panels

Rigid PVC Wall Panels

When it comes to industrial applications, there is nothing quite like rigid PVC as a wall panel material. That is because rigid polyvinyl chloride offers outstanding sound barrier, durability and air extraction qualities. As a result, the material is amenable to a wide range of situations, including sound barriers and cleanroom panels.

Following is a discussion of three of the most common wall panel scenarios in which rigid PVC is put to use.

1. As a Sound Barrier - It is such a dense polymer, rigid PVC possesses excellent soundproofing properties. The structure and composition of the substrate in particular renders it suitable as an inner reinforcement layer.

When it comes to rigid PVC sound barriers, there are two options: 1) absorptive noise barrier systems and, 2) reflective noise barrier systems. In both types it is the tongue and groove rail specifically that is made of polyvinyl chloride.

The absorptive noise wall has a porous, perforated PVC surface that is backed by a core material that dampens noise. The reflective noise wall, on the other hand, is non-perforated.

Just how well do these wall panels protect against noise? They are designed to meet the standards set by both the Canadian Standards Association, and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.

2. As Wall Panels - Rigid PVC isn't just about practical matters. It is also quite attractive, making it an ideal covering for both interior and exterior walls. Consumers can choose many colors, textures and laminates. While it can certainly be used for industrial wall panels, the material is just as suitable for home environments; such as showers, bathrooms and utility rooms.

When it comes to industrial applications, these wall panels are often found in corridors, operating rooms, classrooms, and janitorial closets. The substrate's soundproofing qualities add to its versatility in these regards, but it is polyvinyl chloride's durability where the real commercial draw comes into play. This is because the material has a service life of 20 years or more, saving significant money on maintenance and repair over time.

Imagine being able to move equipment, roll carts and endure years and years of heavy foot traffic without damage. Rigid PVC protects walls from all these potentially harmful impacts.

3. As Cleanroom Wall Panels - In addition to demanding soundproofing and durability from their walls, cleanrooms have the added requirement of sterility. Whether the cleanroom is part of a hospital, a pharmacy, a biotech firm, an electronics company or the food industry, rigid PVC provides the cleanliness called for by inspection agencies.

Rigid PVC cleanroom panels are flame retardant, but more importantly, they are designed to provide the airtight environment that keeps germs out. This airtightness is accomplished via the flush-sealed joints that join the panels together. Particles, contaminants and fumigants are no match against this impenetrable seal. In addition, cleanroom wall panels integrate low-level air extracts into them, without adding thickness to the wall.
